One of our most popular pages on this site is for the pallet wheelie bin shelter, and clearly quite a lot of you are keen to hide away your bins from public view.
Whilst I enjoyed building the shelter and liked using recycled materials there are plenty of options out there:
- Build your own from scratch
- Get a carpenter/handyman to build you one
- Buy a flatpack shelter
There are pros and cons to all of these and you probably know your own competency level and budget but before those decisions then you should probably think about the size you need and the materials use but maybe you should consider something else too?
Shelters with greenery
Wheelie bin shelters don’t have to be boring so have you considered adding some plants and greenery? Not only does it give you another space for growing plants but can also help disguise and soften your shelter. If your bins are a bit smelly then they could also help disguise that too!
Your best bet for plants would probably be alpines as they’re hardy, coping with the cold and winds.
There really isn’t a limit to what you do but hopefully this post has given you a few ideas and helped you realise that the shelter doesn’t have to purely be functional… there’s always time for plants!
You will have to think about drainage/watering/etc but that’s the same with any project so what’s stopping you?
Need instructions as I’m a beginner. Though not afraid to get stuck in.
