I recently received a lovely tweet from someone who had used the information on this site to build their own pizza oven four years ago and had now started building another pizza oven in their new home as they’d recently move house!
It’s great that they found it useful and even better that it stuck in their head enough for them to tweet me for their second build.
I casually asked if the pizza oven had helped with their house sale and this was their response: “The house sold within 24h of listing, the first couple that came fell in love with the pizza oven.” Wow!
Firstly it felt amazing that someone was reaching back out to me after four years to thank me, but it also got me thinking about if a brick pizza oven can add value to your home and also boost your chances of selling your property.
When it comes to selling a house, it’s probably not going to make people pay more for a house, but if you add features like a wood-fired oven or even useful outside storage etc then you’re going to attract more potential buyers and hopefully get them to love your property enough to offer your asking price.
Outdoor living spaces have become highly sought after, especially in a post-covid world, and having a well-designed and functional pizza oven can be a major selling point and help people realise the potential of having a great garden addition without having to think too hard or use their imagination. It’s right there in front of them.
Prospective buyers appreciate the charm and versatility that a brick pizza oven brings, imaginging themselves hosting parties and enjoying great food with family and friends.
When they’re reviewing or chatting about the houses they’re been to visit and potentially buy don’t be surprised if your house becomes known as ‘the one with the pizza oven’.
Investment Vs. Return
I wouldn’t recommend adding an outside pizza oven purely for the sake of selling your property, but if it’s something you will actually use and enjoy then do it.
The cost of pizza ovens can vary depending on multiple factors, so you may not always get your investment back in your property sale, but it’s a potentially valuable feature when selling your home and could speed up your selling process.
Of course in the meantime you benefit from having your own pizza oven and the fun that can bring to your home whilst you’re living there.
Factors to Consider When Installing a Brick Pizza Oven
Before building your pizza oven you need to consider several factors to ensure you get the most out of it, and make it an attractive addition to your property.
Available Space
Evaluate the available space in your outdoor area to determine the size and type of brick pizza oven that best fits your needs. Consider the overall layout of your space, including existing structures, landscaping, and seating arrangements, to create a social and functional design.
You should also check for any laws or rules that may not permit this or require a certain distance from boundaries etc.
Location and Design
Choose an appropriate location for your brick pizza oven that allows for easy access, good ventilation, and safety. Consider factors such as wind direction, proximity to flammable materials, and the overall aesthetics of your outdoor space. Additionally, select a design that complements the style of your home and blends well with the surrounding environment.
Budget
Establish a budget for your brick pizza oven project, considering the cost of materials, installation, and any additional features you may desire. It’s essential to strike a balance between your budget and the quality of materials and workmanship so you end up with the build you want.
Maintenance Requirements
While brick pizza ovens require minimal maintenance, it’s important to understand the upkeep involved. Regular cleaning, removing ashes, and periodic inspections are necessary to keep the oven in optimal condition. Factor in the time and effort required for maintenance when deciding on the installation of a brick pizza oven.
And?
A pizza oven is a nice touch if if something you’re using prior to putting your house on the market, but it’s not going to do much if the rest of your property isn’t in shape. A nice kitchen or modern bathroom is going to add a lot more appeal to your home, so focus on those, still enjoy having a pizza oven, but don’t rely on it pushing up the price of your property.
